COD Women's Volleyball rolls in home opener, sweeps Jaguars 3-0

COD (3-5) spent the first 17 days of the season on the road and came home to give the raucous crowd a sweep of the Southwestern Jaguars of Chula Vista (5-4), 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20).

Sophomore setter Kianna Diaz (Palm Desert H.S.) led the team with 30 set assists and grabbing 13 digs and sophomore outside hitter Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 15 kills, shared the lead with 14 digs, and had 1 assist block. Freshman outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had 10 kills and tied the lead with 3 service aces and freshman opposite hitter Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills H.S.) tied the lead with 14 digs and had 2 service aces. Freshman libero Briana Del Val (Indio H.S.) had 12 digs and shared the lead with 3 service aces.

The Roadrunner's first game in program history against the Southwestern Jaguars of Chula Vista was back in 1988. Since that year, Desert has a 8-4 all-time record against the Jaguars, including a 5-1 record in Palm Desert. For their next match, the Roadrunners will host the Riverside City Tigers on Tuesday, September 20th. Since 1976, Desert has an 8-9 all-time record versus the Tigers, with a 4-2 record in the Coachella Valley.
