Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team accomplished something they hadn't quite done so far this season. The Owls completed a late comeback for the first time this year, as they overcame a seven point halftime deficit The comeback kids took the lead for the first time in the final minutes of the contest, in their 56-54 win over Antelope Valley.

Things didn't start of well for the Owls as they struggled out of the gate, and were held to just 20 points in the first half. Overall, Citrus didn't have it best shooting effort, shooting just 35.5% from the floor on the day and 57.1% from the charity stripe where they average nearly 10% higher on the season.

After trailing 27-20 at the break, the Owls slowly clawed their way back into the game. Citrus didn't even take it first late lead until the final minute of the contest. Sophomore Nicole Zugasti, put Citrus on top 53-52 with just 45 seconds on the clock.

Antelope Valley quickly took it back though when they scored on a fast break, but the Owls didnt' panic and on their next possession, freshman Olivia Montgomery found sophomore Ella Rodriguez on a back door cut to put Citrus back up 55-54.

The Owls would get the ball back, and the Marauders would send Montgomery to the line. At the stripe the usually sure shooter hit the back end of two free-throws to put the Owls back up 56-54, giving Citrus their final cushion.

With the win, Citrus improves to 9-3 on the year. The Owls will be off until Friday December 28th, when they resume play for their final weekend of non-conference play. Citrus will be taking part in the Grossmont Holiday Tournament and will play Cuesta College (10-5) in the first round. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
