HORNETS FLY HIGH IN SEASON OPENER

The FC softball squad began the 2023 season on the right foot Wednesday with an 8-2 victory over visiting Southwestern College.

Fullerton College President Dr. Olivo tossed out the first pitch of the game and was the Hornet's good luck charm helping the team grab its first victory of the season.

After a few scoreless innings, the Jaguars scored the first run of the game in the fourth on Sami Sandoval's knock to left field that brought Jordyn Beatty home.

The Hornets did not waste any time clapping back in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs. Meah Almaraz rocked a double to left center scoring Alyssa GarciaAlendy Aguilar then grounded out to short giving Haley Perez the chance to come home, and Coco Siono ripped a hard single up the middle plating Serina Vue.

FC added to its lead in the fifth inning dropping four runs on Southwestern. Ariana Gonzalez hit a single to second base scoring Alyssa Garcia and Alyssa Caulford. With the bases loaded, Olivia Nunez worked the count for a walk bringing in Serina VueCoco Siono then hit a SAC Fly to deep right field allowing Alendy Aguilar the chance to come home.

Fullerton was not done lighting up the scoreboard as Alyssa Caulford crushed a solo home run over the left field fence.

The Jags managed one more run in the seventh before the Hornets closed the door on them. Haley Oceguera singled up the middle scoring Nayeli Martinez.

First-year Hornet Dallas Garcia earned her first college win going 4 innings with 6 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 3 K's. Allyson Fuentes came in relief going 2 innings with no hits, no runs, and a walk. Olivia Nunez put the finishing touches on the game tossing an inning with 2 hits, 1 earned run and no walks.

Up Next: Fullerton (1-0 overall) will hit the road against Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday, February 9th at 3:00 pm.
