Cypress - The Cypress College baseball team (1-0) won their season opener 7-3 at home against Grossmont (0-1) on Tuesday afternoon.
Cypress jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and was able to maintain the lead throughout the game. Center fielder Joe Vanmarter led the Chargers with three hits in five at bats, including one run. Designated hitter Brandon Brintz led Cypress in RBIs with two.
The Chargers will continue their home stand as Ventura College comes to town on Friday and Saturday. First pitch on Friday will be at 2:00 pm, while Saturday's game starts at 12:00 pm.
