Women’s Tennis Pushes Past Bakersfield with Ease in SoCal Regional Round One

After completing the regular season with an overall record of 16-2, the Riverside City College women's tennis team earned a home match in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional tournament. They hosted the Bakersfield College Renegades at home on Tuesday afternoon and made quick work of them by earning a 6-0 win and advancing to the second round with ease.

Riverside started strong by sweeping doubles play to halt any chance of Bakersfield earning a victory. Freshman dup Torrey Mateljan and Maxelle Bernie teamed up as the top pairing and worked towards an 8-2 victory. Freshman Yasmin Johnson and sophomore Heather Graf earned the most dominant win of the match as the number two doubles with the final score reading 8-1. Sophomore Emilia Lopez and freshman Hannah Stevenson earned a 8-2 win at the number three position to seal the doubles sweep.

Bernie acted as the number three singles player and hauled in a two-set win with scores reading 6-0, 6-1, while freshman Miranda Cardenas reeled in a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth position leading to the 6-0 team win.
