Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners waste little time in sweep at Trade Tech

The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team cruised to its most lopsided win of the season, a 25-8, 25-3, 25-9 victory at LA Trade-Tech College on Friday. The South Coast Conference interdivision sweep improved the Roadrunners to 6-13 overall.

Rio Hondo quickly totaled 31 kills in the three-set win. Leading the way was Sierra Smethurst with 6 kills, followed by 5 kills from Vania Maciel and Nicole Vasquez.

A big key to the win were 20 aces by the Roadrunners. Alejandra Lopez and Stephanie Perez both had four each to lead Rio Hondo.

Also contributing to the victory were Lopez' team-best 11 digs while Mia Torres paced the offense with 11 assists.

The Roadrunners will look to keep their momentum going when they return to South Coast Conference North Division play on Wednesday (Oct. 31). Rio Hondo hosts Mt. San Antonio College at 6 p.m. in its final home match of the season. The Roadrunners close out the regular season with their final three matches on the road.
