Ito and Giese Advance to Final Day at CCCAA State Championships

OJAI, Calif. – Sophomores Madi Giese and Lina Ito extended their season to the very last day after scoring a victory in the quarterfinals of the CCCAA Women's Tennis State Championships on Saturday at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club in Ojai, Calif.

Giese and Ito, the No. 2 seed from Southern California, defeated No. 6 seed Maxelle Bernie and Torrey Mateljan of Riverside in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). In four matches so far, Giese and Ito have yet to drop a set and have lost just nine of 57 games played en route to the semifinals. The duo has already surpassed their result from 2018 where they made it to the Round of 16.

With the win, the Warriors duo is set to face Camryn Mason and Shayee Sherif of Orange Coast College in the semifinals on Sunday at 8 a.m. The Pirates' team, the No. 3 seed from SoCal, upset No. 1 North seeded Eva Spindler and Haley Van Orman of American River in the quarterfinals, outlasting the top seed 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

On the singles side, Warriors No. 1 Riko Tanagawa saw her tournament come to an end in the quarterfinals as she fell to Miri Inoue of Orange Coast College in straight sets (6-3, 6-0).
