COALINGA – Porterville College is 1-0 to begin Central Valley Conference play thanks to its marathon five-set victory at West Hills College Coalinga on Friday.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Pirates and improved their overall record to 4-6.
Trailing 2-1, Porterville won the final two sets to grind out the victory. Final set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, and 15-11.
PC was able to capitalize on numerous West Hills errors. The Falcons committed 32 attack errors and 21 service errors.
Sophomore Victoria Dabney led the Pirates on offense with 8 kills to go with 5 digs. Samantha Smith added 7 kills, 9 digs, and 2 aces while Reyna Ellis posted 4 kills, 11 assists, and 7 digs.
Also for PC, Rilynn Fien totaled 4 kills, 12 assists, and 5 digs and Molly Ortega 4 blocks and 3 kills.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday (Sep. 21) when they host Columbia College in a 5 p.m. Central Valley Conference match.
