The hit parade continued for the West Valley softball team, as they opened the 2020 home schedule with a 7-3 win over San Joaquin Delta Tuesday in Saratoga.

The Vikings (5-0) have pounded out 67 hits, an 11-hit average, in five games to open the season. Eight of the nine WVC starters reached safely Tuesday, with Hannah Hillman, Zoe Mendez and Cayla Williams enjoying multi-hit outings.

West Valley jumped on top with a trio of runs in the first frame. After a Mustang error on a Mendez shot to short, Mariah Perez ripped an RBI single and Bianca Ceja clubbed a two-run double to center.

A Hannah Hillman steal of home, after she doubled to center and stole second, highlighted a two-run second. Lily Chavez followed the Hillman theft with a double to short left field and then came home on a Mendez single to left.

The Mustangs (4-1) answered with three in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3, but the Vikings put it away with two in the sixth.

Back-to-back-to-back errors resulted in a Perez run. Mya Galindo then sent a laser through the 5-6 hole that brought Ceja home for a 7-3 lead.

Cayla Williams struck out four Mustangs and gave up three hits in five innings to pick up her second win of the year in the circle. America Maples gave up a lone single hit in two innings of relief.

Williams and Mendez were both 2-4, while Hannah Hillman finished 2-3 with a double and two stolen bases. Ceja and Chavez both had doubles.

The Vikings travel to Sacramento Friday (2/7) for a 2:00pm game at American River (0-2).
