Cats purr in opener against MiraCosta

The Saddleback women's soccer team opened the 2022 campaign with a 3-0 win at MiraCosta College on Tuesday in Oceanside.  It was the seventh straight season the program has shut out its opponent on opening day.

Saddleback scored the opening goal of the game in the 25th minute when Lizbeth De Loera redirected a pass from Christina Santoyo for a 1-0 lead.  The Bobcats took that lead into the half, outshooting the Spartans 11-1.

Saddleback tacked on two more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.   Kylie Beu took a cross from Zoe Chung off a corner kick and slipped it past the keeper in the 48th minute for a 2-0 lead.  Chung then tallied one of her own on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for the final goal of the game.

Saddleback outshot MiraCosta 22-2 for the day.  Jamie-Lynn Clark started in goal and played 80 minutes before giving way to Olivia Wynn for the final 10 minutes of the game.

It was the seventh straight season that Saddleback has opened the season with a shutout. The last time Saddleback gave up a goal in an opening game of the season was in 2014 when they defeated Southwestern College, 4-2.

The Bobcats will play in the Mt. San Antonio College Nike / Azteca Soccer Classic on Friday and Sunday in Walnut.  Saddleback will open on Friday night against Cosumnes River College at 5:00 PM.  The Bobcats will then play Lake Tahoe College at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning.
