The Hartnell Baseball team dropped its first contest of the 2020 season to visiting Diablo Valley 3-1. Both teams traded runs in the 3rd inning, the Panthers only run scoring on a ground out by Carlos Drain, that scored Diego Fisher after he moved up to third base on an Isaiah Bueno double. Both teams pitching staffs were in control all afternoon. For the Panthers Ryan Rivera got the start and pitched 4 and 2/3 innings, giving two runs on four hits and three walks and two strikeouts. Nolan Maldonado came in relief and pitched just as good as Rivera. He went 4 and 1/3 giving up three hits, a run, and striking out three.
Next up for the Panthers (3-1) they will host American River college on Friday and Saturday of this coming weekend. Game times are 2 p.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
