Slow Second Quarter Dooms Women's Basketball at COS

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball program continued the abbreviated Spring I season by dropping a tight contest at College of the Sequoias on Saturday afternoon.

Hancock entered the intermission trailing by 15 points after being outscored 20-6 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs fought to regain footing in the second half and nearly took the lead by way of a strong 14-7 showing in the final frame, but time expired before the comeback could be completed. Jayci Bayne and Alijah Paquet led a trio of double digit scorers for the AHC squad after pouring in 13 points apiece, while Aryana Gonzales added 12 points and seven rebounds to the mix. Danielle Morgan led the Bulldogs on the glass after nabbing 10 rebounds. She stuffed the stat sheet by also adding four points, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

As a team, Hancock finished shooting 26 percent from the floor while the Giants posted a 34 percent finish. The Bulldogs finished with a slim 43-41 advantage on the glass and were able to convert 14 COS turnovers into 16 points.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, March 25th, with a home contest versus Taft. Tip-off is set for 6 PM inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
