Pirates Squeak By Hawks

MODESTO (3-12) - Cosumnes River traveled to Modesto to take on Modesto Junior College in Big 8 Conference-South Division play. The Pirates won two doubles matches and defeated the Hawks 5-4.

Both the Hawks and the Pirates won three singles matches. In the #3 singles match between Angela Hurtado of Cosumnes River and Silena Sierra of Modesto, Hurtado defeated Sierra 6-2, 6-3. In the #5 singles match between Hannah Dinkins of the Hawks and Gabby Soria of the Pirates, Dinkins defeated Soria 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. In the #4 singles match between Evelyn Bravo of Cosumnes River and Caroline Lee of Modesto, Lee defeated Bravo 6-0, 6-1. In the #1 singles match between Salma Prasad of Cosumnes River and Kaylyn Hedstrom of Modesto, Hedstrom defeated Prasad 6-0, 6-1. In the #6 singles match between Paola Barron-Zamora of the Hawks and Ariana Herrera of the Pirates, Herrera defeated Barron-Zamora 6-2, 6-2. The tightest singles match was the #2 singles match between Krista Le of Cosumnes River and Pam Costa of Modesto. Le defeated Costa 6-7, 6-1 (10-8).

The Pirates won two doubles match while the Hawks won one. In the #2 doubles match between Barron-Zamora and Bravo of the Hawks and Sierra and Soria of the Pirates, Sierra and Soria defeated Zamora and Bravo 8-2. In the #1 doubles match between Hurtado and Le of Cosumnes River and Costa and Hedstrom of Modesto, Costa and Hedstrom defeated Hurtado and Le 8-3. The tightest doubles match was the the #3 doubles match between Dinkins and Prasad of Cosumnes River and Focha and Herrera of Modesto. Dinkins and Prasad defeated Focha and Herrara 8-4.
