Three Viking pairs forced to rally in home-opening sweep of Mustangs

The West Valley beach volleyball team opened the 2020 home schedule with a 5-0 sweep of San Joaquin Delta Friday.
 
Viking 2's Rene Wash/Jaida Ward started the morning with a 21-10, 21-11 straight-set win over Stephanie Fopiano/Jessica Smith. One court over, WVC 4's Della Trimble/Renee Martin topped Lauren Hicks/Karina Fardmanesh 21-11, 21-16. The first wave finished with 6's Kelly Mahoney/Lydia Marku holding off Sofia Tringolo/Samantha Duncan 21-14, 17-20, 15-5.
 
The second wave saw all three Viking pairs drop their first sets to the Mustangs. Each WVC would rally, with 1's Kayla Keller/Hannah Reynoso winning 13-21, 21-10, 15-4 over Angelique Stepanoff/Kaitlyn Morenzone; 3's Emily Paxton/Audrey Fernandez rallying past Kiana Day/Aliah Cortez 14-21, 22-20, 15-4 and the 5's Hannah Moore/Elia Duenas coming back to defeat Angelica Mercado/Analise Almgren 19-21, 21-15, 15-11.
 
The Vikings moved to 3-0 with the win, while the Mustangs dropped to 0-2.
