Men's volleyball team has no problems in win over Golden West

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team now has two matches left in the regular season.

The Lasers, ranked tied for second in the state, cotinued to roll Friday night with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-19 Orange Empire Conference victory over Golden West at home.

IVC improved its record to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in conference. The Lasers are tied with Orange Coast for first place in the OEC standings.

Irvine Valley won its fifth straight match and ninth in its last 10 contests. Seven of those have been sweeps.

IVC hosts Fullerton next Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then plays at Satiago Canyon on Friday at 6 p.m. to wrap up the regular season.

The Lasers got solid performances from a number of players on Friday. Six players had at least four kills. Sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett finished with nine kills, five digs and two aces.

In the third and final set, Gossett ended the match with a kill down the line.

Sophomore outside hitter Leonardo Mazuco and freshman outside hitters Damon Kooiman and Zach McEntire each had seven kills for IVC. McEntire added eight digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Julio Gutierrez ended the night with six kills and hit .500 with five blocks.

Freshman setter Kaina Alvarez added four kills, 32 assists and four digs and sophomore libero Adam Schulte contributed 12 digs for the Lasers.
