Elizabeth McGrath's 15 fourth-set assists boosted the West Valley volleyball team to a hard-fought 25-21, 28-26, 23-25, 25-17 win over Foothill Wednesday night in Saratoga. McGrath came off coach Armen Zakarian's bench after the Vikings (7-4) dropped an intense third set to the Owls (5-8) and sparked WVC to a 13-7 lead they never relinquished. Rene Wash connected on four fourth-set kills off McGrath sets. State kills-per-set leader Mapuhola Sekona finished with a match-high 24 kills, while Kaylin Henderson was nearly perfect at the net, knocking down 16 hits on 17 swings. West Valley opens Coast Conference action Friday (9/28) when it hosts Skyline (4-3). First serve is 6:30pm.
