Cypress Baseball Scores 18 Runs to Force Rubber Match Versus Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA- Chargers baseball (24-21) faced elimination versus the Riverside Tigers (32-12) on Saturday afternoon. Cypress entered today's game with a 1-0 series deficit, but their bats would not be denied. The Chargers slapped 18 runs on the board to defeat the Tigers1 18-5.

Nick Bautista (5.0 IP) got the start on the mound for Cypress allowing 4 runs while striking out 4 batters. Noah Karliner had a huge day going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and 2 home runs. Dean Toigo went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Nick Mascaro (2-for-4) and Edgar Roslaes (2-for-4) both notched 2 RBI on the day. 

Luke Honikel (1-for-5) got the game started with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first to give Cypress a 2-0 lead. The Chargers would tally 3 runs in the 4th inning including a Noah Karliner HR and an Edgar Rosales triple. Riverside would put their first two runs on the board in top of the fifth inning before the Chargers exploded for seven runs in the bottom half to make the score, 12-2. Cade Liefer would knock in the final RBI of the game in the bottom of the eighth as the Chargers exhausted the Riverside bullpen and coasted to a 18-5 victory. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers and Tigers will play a win or go home game three to advance to sectionals on Sunday, May 15th. First pitch will be at 12pm.
