Volleyball Team Goes 2-2 in Busy Week

The MSJC volleyball team lost a road match at Grossmont on Wednesday, but rallied back to win two of three matches and earn a third place finish at the LA Mission Tournament over the weekend.

The Eagles opened their busy week with a five set loss at Grossmont, as they dropped the fifth set after rallying back from a 2-0 deficit.  Mckenna Conklin led the team with 14 kills in the match while Trysta Vincelli had 21 assists and Laelanie Isbell had a team best 20 digs.

MSJC then traveled to LA Mission College where they opened the weekend tournament with a sweep of Lassen 3-0.  The Eagles were dominat as they won 25-17, 25-14, and 25-22.  Conklin and Kennidy Martin both had 9 kills in the victory and Lauren Cummings added a solo block and a pair of block assists on defense.  In the tournament semi-finals on Saturday the Eagles fell in 4 sets to East Los Angeles 18-25, 22-25, 25-23, and 17-25.  Again it was Conklin who led the offense with 11 kills and Chloe Mata picked up a team best 16 digs.  In the third place match later Saturday evening MSJC rallied in the fifth set to defeat Chaffey 25-18, 18-25, 25-11, 14-25, and 15-13.  In the fifth set the Eagles trailed 8-1 and 13-7 before turning it on to pick up the win.  Brooklynn Thomas led the Eagles with 15 kills in this one while Vincelli had 26 assists and Alex Sotello had 17 helpers.  Conklin had a team high 19 digs.

The Eagles are now 7-7 on the season and have some time now to catch their breath as their next match is not until Wednesday September 28th when they travel to Victor Valley for their Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener.  MSJC's next home match is the following Wednesday October 5th when they host Chaffey at 5 pm.
