Mt. SAC Softball Wins 9th Straight, 4-0 over Palomar

(San Marcos, CA) Mt. SAC pitcher Alexia Silvas threw a no-hitter, defeating host Palomar, 4-0, Friday (Feb. 14) in a non-conference game, allowing only three baserunners in seven innings.

Included in the seven-inning gem for Silvas was an eight-strikeout performance as she retired 13-in-a-row from the third to the sixth inning. The sophomore allowed two walks and a hit batter, facing only three over the minimum.

The Mounties stayed hot to start the 2020 season with its ninth consecutive win and 16th straight dating back to the 2019 playoffs.

With the bats (5 hits) not as hot against the Comets as the previous four games, banging out 56 hits, the Mounties still managed a home run by sophomore first baseman Emily Goldstein (1 for 2, Run, RBI, BB) and three other players - right fielder Megan Jones, third baseman Charleen Macias and second baseman Alexis Lemus - with one RBI each.

Macias opened the scoring with a run-scoring single in the first, followed by a fifth-inning solo home run by Goldstein for the 2-0 lead. The Mounties added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to lead 4-0, with a run-scoring single from Lemus, scoring pinch runner Alexis Diaz, and left fielder Mikenna Barcelona came home after Jones reached on an error.

Mt. SAC will play one more away South Coast Conference game at Pasadena City College Tuesday (Feb. 18) before returning back home for three, (Feb. 20) against Cerritos, (Feb. 21) East Los Angeles, and (Feb. 25)Rio Hondo.
