Lady Hawks Soar to Victory

Sacramento, California. Nariyah O'Brien's 50th minute goal help set the tone for the Lady Hawks victory over Las Positas College in non-conference play.

Winning the home opener for the Hawks is a great start to the season. The Lady Hawks are off to a 2-0 start in the 2022 season. Scoring 8 goals and not giving a goal this season.

Tuesdays match between CRC and Las Positas was a back and forth action filled match. Both teams were held scoreless during the first 45 minutes of play, but not by choice. Both teams creating chances just were both unfortunate in front of goal.

The second half kicked off and the Lady Hawks looked to take over the game. The breakthrough came in the 50th minute when sophomore Kathryn Rocha served in a free kick that got sophomore Nariyah O'Brien in behind the Las Positas defense. O'Brien got in the 18 yard box and finished her chance through the Las Positas goalkeepers legs for the 1-0 Hawks lead. 5 minutes later the Rocha and O'Brien connection teamed up to give the Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Hawks took control from that point on. Creating numerous chances and getting a bit unlucky with the finishes. That changed in the 84th minute when freshman Kylie Onatanian got on the end a O'Brien cross to give the Lady Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Coach Cesar Plasencia said after the game "I am very proud of this group of ladies. They worked hard all game and were rewarded with a great win."

Next up for the 2-0 Lady Hawks, they will travel to LA to participate in the Mt. Sac Showcase where they will play Saddleback College and Mt. Sac College.  A great opportunity for the team to test themselves against some elite SoCal competition.
