Cuesta Softball split a pair of games on the first day of the Cuesta Fastpitch Classic.  The Cougars hung with 2019 CCCAA State Qualifier Sacramento for the first five innings, but stranded six runs over that span.  The Panthers scored six times in the final two innings to put the game out of reach.  Sacramento also beat Siskiyous in the sandwich game and the Cougars came back to take a game from the Eagles too.  Cuesta beat Siskiyous, 9-0, in a five-inning, run-rule victory.  Outfielder Kirra Vargas was the only Cuesta player to hit safely in both ends of the twinbill.  She was 3-for-4 on the day with a pair of walks, a runs scored and one driven in.  Freshman Pitcher Maddy Mata went the distance against Siskiyous and authored a complete game shutout over the Eagles. 

The Cougars, Panthers and Eagles will run today's schedule back again on day two of the tournament.  Cuesta plays Sacramento at 10 AM and Siskiyous at 2 PM, while the visiting Panthers and Eagles also play at Noon.
