Game Review – 2/21/23 vs Mt San Jacinto

7th Inning double by Haley Oceguerra gives the Jags a 1-0 walk off win

Southwestern College softball ends a 7-game losing streak with a dramatic 1-0 walk off win against Mt. San Jacinto College at a cold and blustery Southwestern Softball field. Both teams struggled with the weather conditions as a fierce wind kept balls that would normally find gaps and balls that would drop in for base hits in the air and neither team could find a way to plate a run for six innings. Both teams had some chances. The Eagles loaded the bases twice against Jags Pitcher Maddie Mendez (Santana High) but she was able to escape both jams with help from her defense. Bella Hurtado (Olympian High) made a nice catch off a line drive to end one threat and Jordan Beatty (Santana) made a nice play up the middle to stop another threat.

Mt. San Jacinto's pitcher was equally effective only allowing 4 hits through 6 innings but in the 7th inning with 2 out, Elyssa Garcia (Clairemont) singled up the middle. She was replaced by speedy reserve Angie Allen (Montgomery High) and Haley Oceguerra (Santana High) came through with a line drive to left center that went all the way to the fence, allowing Allen to score all the way from first and giving the Jags a 1-0 win.

Mendez was strong in the circle only allowing 7 hits and 1 walk across 7 innings. The Jags are back in action this Saturday at Riverside and begin league play next week with a road game at Imperial on Wednesday March 1st. The Jags will return to Southwestern Softball field on Saturday March 4th against Golden West College at Noon.
