Wolverines Power to Victory in 2021 Home Debut

Addyson Awunganyi was not going to be denied her first goal as a San Bernardino Valley College Wolverine.

In the 44th minute Tuesday, the freshman took a pass from Jennifer Chavez, and drove up the middle. She recovered the bouncing ball off a defender's foot, then pushed it past the charging Citrus College goalkeeper Deziree Valdez and ran the ball down and tapped it into the net for the game's only goal as the Wolverines knocked off Citrus 1-0 in the first home game of the season for the women's soccer team.

The win was not without some tense moments, however, as goalkeeper Ana Barajas had to come up big to keep the clean sheet. In the first half, she tipped a looping shot off the bottom of the crossbar, and saw the ball bounce out and get cleared away by her defense. In the second half, she got her hand on a rising shot, and pushed it just over the bar, where the ball hit the football goal post cross bar.

On the other end, the Wolverines kept Valdez busy, as she too made several big saves. She ended the game with 10 saves on 11 SBVC shots on goal.
