Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners close out epic week with sweeps of Cerritos, LBCC

Rio Hondo College continued an impressive stretch of the season by picking up consecutive sweeps of Cerritos College on Wednesday and Long Beach City College on Friday.

The Roadrunners have won five of their last six matches, all by way of 3-0 sweeps. They improved to 5-4 overall and are 2-1 in South Coast Conference play.

Rio Hondo rolled to a 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 victory at home against the visiting Falcons on Wednesday. The Roadrunners served up 17 aces while coming up with 73 digs.

Nadine Oronoz led Rio Hondo with 10 kills, 17 digs and contributed a pair of aces. Faith Lee totaled 6 kills, 4 aces, and 7 digs while Haedee Estrella had a team-high 6 aces to go along with 7 digs.

Faith Wada posted 15 digs, 12 assists, 3 kills, 2 aces, and a block.

The Roadrunners kept the momentum going with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-20 win at Long Beach to cap the week on Friday night.

"It was a huge win for us," said Rio Hondo head coach Teddi Esko. "The team played amazing on the road."

This time it was Maria Bejines pacing the offense with 10 kills. Oronoz was right behind her with 9 kills and 9 digs. She also added a pair of aces and a pair of blocks.

Lee totaled 8 kills and a team-best 13 digs. Wada had another good all-around match with 7 kills, 17 assists, 8 digs, and 2 aces. Also, Estrella posted 13 assists and 3 aces and Daniela Sanchez totaled 11 digs.

Rio Hondo will face a tougher test in its next match. The Roadrunners host 8-3 East Los Angeles College in a 6 p.m. conference match on Wednesday (Oct. 5).
