COD Beach Volleyball avenges early season loss, chases away Eagles, 4-1

COD (4-5) got back on track just before the beginning of South Coast Conference play, avenging a road loss from three weeks ago, defeating the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee (2-2), 4-1.

The Roadrunners home beach volleyball courts are located at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park and the four courts that are available. As a result, the 1-2-4-5 teams faced off first, leaving the 3's team for the matinee. Both teams faced off with one another on February 11th at the Eagles grand opening of their new Beach Volleyball facility on their Menifee Valley Campus. Desert has played three teams in the weeks in between, but Mt. San Jacinto has not played a single match since February 11th and the lack of competition may have been a contributing factor.

The 1's team of freshman Kyrsti Photias (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore Katie Geiberger-Tiegen (Palm Desert H.S.) won their match in straight sets, 21-14 and 21-14. The season was slightly delayed for Geiberger-Tiegen, who just had a baby and was recently medically cleared to return to the sand.

The 2's team of freshman Tyler Davis (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) and freshman Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) also won their match in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-11.

The 4's team of sophomore Jomarie Viloria (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman Rikki Mottler (Rancho Mirage H.S.) also won their match in straight sets 21-19 and 21-17.

The 5's team of freshman Caitlin Bilhartz (Bowling Green, MO) and freshman Angel Talos (Palm Desert H.S.) also won their match in straight sets, 21-18 and 21-5.

The late match was the 3's team of freshman Emillie Griffith (Yucca Valley H.S.) and freshman Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) who took the Eagles to a third and deciding match, only to fall short, 19-21, 21-18 and 15-13.

The next match for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be at home where they will open up South Coast Conference (SCC) play by hosting the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut and the Glendale Vaqueros on March 11th at 9a.
