Women's Volleyball Earns a Split at Hartnell Classic

Women's Volleyball hit the road last Friday for a doubleheader in Salinas against host Hartnell and visiting Folsom Lake.  The Cougars blew through Folsom Lake to start the day, as the Falcons did not reach 20 points in any of their three losses.  Freshman Southpaw Whitney Thompson (Arroyo Grande HS- pict) pounded Folsom Lake with a game-high nine kills, while Sophomore Middle Blocker Morgan Krause (Santa Maria- pict) dominated the net with a game-high six total blocks to go with six kills of her own.  Folsom Lake began the day with a five-set win over host Hartnell, so, after watching the Cougars dispatch Folsom Lake, the host Panthers returned to action to play Cuesta in the nightcap.  Hartnell jumped back into action with a convincing win over the Cougars in the opening set, 25-13, but Cuesta battled back to even the match in the second set, 26-24.  Unfortunately, that was it for Cuesta as the Cougars managed only 30 more points in the last two sets (25-17, 25-13) as Hartnell picked up the win and left all three teams 1-1 on the day.  Returning Freshman Christelle Mouret (Morro Bay HS) led the Cougars with nine kills against the host Panthers.   Cuesta is 2-1 on the season.

The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, September 8 in Visalia.  They shall play another mini tournament and face both host Sequoias (Noon) and Modesto (2 PM).
