Four Wins Over Weekend for Spartans

The women's volleyball team was busy this weekend, playing two matches on Friday and two matches on Saturday.  In addition, one of the matches on Friday was against the #6 ranked team in the state. MiraCosta, however, proved to be the best team on the floor in all four matches finishing 4-0 on the weekend and improving their overall record to 9-2.

Against the College of the Canyons the Spartans were led by Halie Hess with fourteen kills, Hayley Torres with nine kills, and Shannon Evans with eight kills; all with the help of Kacy Hele who had thirty three assists. On the defensive side the women's volleyball team was led by freshman libero Hanley Lomax, who had twenty six digs. The lady Spartans were fixed and focused on what they could do to better the ball and in the end they came out on top winning all three sets with the scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-21.

This past Saturday the team woke up early for their tournament at Chaffey College. The first set was a bit shakey, they had a very close game but still came out as the victor with a score of 25-23. The leading hitters this match were Camryn Seaman (12 kills), Halie Hess  (nine kills), Shannon Evans (eight kills), and Maddy Letterman  (seven kills). The offense was led by Isabella Gama who had thirty four assists. The Spartan defense was led by Hanley Lomax who had ten digs, and Maddy Letterman who had eight digs. In the last two sets the team went back to the fundamentals and ended up winning 25-16 and 25-18.

The final game on Saturday for the volleyball team was against Chaffey College. Despite fatigue the ladies fought hard and stayed disciplined. The offensive leaders were Halie Hess with nineteen kills, Shannon Evans with eleven kills, Ruki Kennedy with eleven kills, and Kacy Hele with fifty three assists. The defense was led by Hanley Lomax with twenty two digs, Hayley Torres with nineteen digs, and Halie Hess with fourteen digs. The lady Spartans triumphed over the trial of feeling tired and won their match with the scores of 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 25-13, and 15-11. 

Halie Hess, nominated for the the AVCA Player of the Week, averaged 3.07 kills per set, had ten blocks and 2.65 digs per set. Setter Kacy Hele averaged eleven sets per set over the the weekend.
