Baseball Beats Pasadena on Cuervo Sac Fly

PASADENA - Valley College Baseball traveled to Pasadena, Wednesday, and got the close win, 5-4.

Feeling good coming out of the first inning, the Monarchs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Tino Valdez single, who turned around and scored the second run on a fielder's choice.  Pasadena came back in the third inning, taking a 3-2 lead.  One run at a time, the Monarchs worked their way back taking the lead in the sixth, and then giving it up in the 7th, leaving the game tied going into the ninth inning.  Left fielder Brandon Cuervo (top picture) stepped up as the hero of the game, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Bobby Velasco (bottom picture) - the winning run, in the top of the ninth.

Brandon Cuervo had a great day for the Monarchs, going 1-3 at the plate, hitting a home run and hitting in the game winner.  Bobby Velasco was 3-4 at the plate today, his one run was the game winner.

The Monarchs get another chance to collect a W Friday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Cerritos.
