Irvine Valley's women's soccer team battled Norco all match long, but gave up two goals after tying the contest and fell, 5-3, on Friday afternoon at home.

Irvine Valley went behind in the 10th minute, came back to tie the game, went down, 3-1, and responded to tie the contest again, but couldn't get past the Mustangs in the end.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 1-3-0 overall. Norco won its season opener.

"We are giving up some goals that we shouldn't," Irvine Valley coach Joe Supe said. "We allowed four goals on set pieces today and that can't happen. Besides those four goals, I thought we did some really good things out there.

"But we have to limit those mistakes."

Norco took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Daysha Adams in the 10th minute.

Irvine Valley answered with a goal by freshman midfielder Betsabet Corrales on an assist from sophomore forward Cierra Savin in the 28th minute. It was Corrales' first goal of the season.

But Norco jumped back in front with a goal by Alessandra Lopez in the 35th minute and then another tally by Adams in the 38th minute to go up, 3-1.

Irvine Valley came back with a goal just before the end of the first half. Savin scored on a penalty kick, rocketing a shot into the upper left corner to make it 3-2.

IVC carried that momentum into the second half and tied the match, 3-3, in the 73rd minute on a goal by freshman defender Amanda Kutcher. She stole the ball, moved it up field, beat two defenders and then fired a long shot that found the back of the net.

But Norco finished the contest with the final two goals for the win. Adams scored her third goal of the game in the 75th minute and then Jocelyn Aleman finished off a loose ball off of a corner kick to wrap up Norco's 5-3 victory.

Sophomore keeper Heather Miller ended with five saves for Irvine Valley.

The Lasers play again on Tuesday at San Diego City at 3 p.m.
