MEN’S BASKETBALL: SLICK ROAD WIN

The No. 3 in state Hornet basketball team hit the wet California freeway traveling to No. 2 Santa Monica College in the rain on Wednesday and sank the Corsairs 84-74 in a battle of top contenders.

It was the game of the week featuring the two best teams in the Southern California (San Francisco is ranked No.1), and Fullerton did not falter in beating the No. 2 team in the state going an undefeated 6-0 on the young season.

FC played some strong team basketball, a trademark of Head Coach Perry Webster's, as they went up early 15-7 off of a jumper by Jacob Eyman. At the 9-minute mark, DJ Houston extended the Hornet's lead to 21-10 when he drove the lane for a successful layup. Fullerton pushed their lead to 42-26 by halftime.

Harrison Bonner hit a jumper at the start of the second half giving the Hornets their largest lead of the game at 18 points (44-26). Santa Monica did their best to get back into the game pulling within 8 points with 5 minutes left (68-60). FC had too much left in the tank to let the game slip away as they moved forward pulling off a commendable 10-point win.

Big man Jacob Eyman nearly had a double-double scoring a game-high 22 points with 9 boards. He also added 7 blocks to the stat sheet. Tawon Elston dropped in 16 points, DJ Houston scored 15, and Omajae Smith put up 13 points with 8 rebounds. Harrison Bonner, RJ Knibb, and Ronnie Stapp all scored 6 points each.

Up Next: The No. 3 Hornets (6-0 overall) will play back home in the Hornets Nest this Saturday, November 23rd when they take on Mount San Jacinto College. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
