The West Valley women's soccer team scored 1:20 in and then withstood a Los Medanos second-half rally for a 3-2 win over the Mustangs Tuesday at Dick Schwendinger Field. Fans had just settled into their seats when Ayanna Rubio found the back of the net off a Caitlyn Trampenau service for a 1-0 Viking lead. Less than four minutes later, Payton Stauble redirected a Kyndall Schwiebert cross for a 2-0 advantage. West Valley (3-4-1) took a 3-0 lead into the break after Emiko Kimura converted a drop-ball free kick from 30 yards out. The Mustangs (3-3-0) mounted a furious comeback midway through the second half on unassisted goals from Anissa Gomez (71') and Holly Gallagher (77'). WVC has a ten-day break before embarking on a four-fixture road trip that begins at state #1-ranked Fresno City (6-0-0) Sept. 27.
