Jazzy Carrasco scored 19 of her game-high 28 points in the second half on Wednesday night as No. 1 Moorpark shot 58.3% to take down SBCC 86-54 in a WSC North women's basketball game in the Sports Pavilion.

The Vaqueros (12-7, 0-2) fell behind 18-11 in the opening quarter, then closed within two (26-24) on a layup by Jada Forsdick-Stevenson with 5:25 to go in the second period. The Raiders (20-1, 2-0) responded with a 15-2 burst to take a 41-26 lead at the half.

Barbara Rangel, a big 6-2 center, dominated the inside as she scored 16 first-half points on 8-8 shooting. She finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Moorpark is the No. 2 shooting team in the state (46.1%) and their 58.3% was their second-best effort of the season. The Raiders dropped in 10-of-26 from long distance compared to 2-15 for the Vaqueros.

Aaliyah Pauling paced SBCC with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Lauren Noggle tied her season high with 14 points on 6-7 shooting off the bench.

Playing at home for the first time in 10 weeks, the Vaqueros were outshot 58.3 to 34.5% and lost the rebound battle, 43-22.

Moorpark's starters outscored the Vaquero starters by 49 points, 79-30.

"I was really, really excited that we played hard," said SBCC coach Sandrine Krul. "They're 19-1 for a reason. They're a very good team and you have to pick your poison. You're either going to stop their big or you're going to stop the three shooters.

"You have to play perfect against a team like Moorpark."

SBCC returns to WSC North play with a two-game road trip to the north – Saturday at Cuesta (7 p.m.) and Wednesday at Hancock (7 p.m.).
