City outshot IVC, 11-6, on Friday, but none of the Arabs shots were on target. The Knights' back line held up well and did not allow Imperial Valley to create much.
The Knights were able to tack on an insurance goal in the 75th minute when a cross from Guerrero found Shantal Benitez Romero in the middle of the box and she put the ball through for her first goal of the year.
San Diego City held on for the final 15 minutes and secured their well-earned first win. The Knights are at home again on Tuesday against Cuyamaca at 3 p.m.
