Eagle Volleyball Opens IEAC With Road Win

The MSJC volleyball team opened conference play on Friday night when they traveled to College of the Desert where they came away with a 3-1 victory over the Roadrunners.

The Eagles started slowly as they dropped the opening set 19-25, but quickly found their footing to win the next three by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-16.

Megan Gajda and Josephine Springer led the Eagle attack at the net as they knocked down 13 and 12 kills respectively.  Lorena Lopez added 10 kills and Hailey Frary had 9.  Amari Ramirez (19) and Jade Tolliver (16) combined to dish out 35 assists in the victory.  On defense four MSJC players reached double figures in digs with Gajda leading the way with 16.  Brooklyn Jimenez picked up 14 balls while Springer had 13 and Ramirez 10.  Springer also added a solo block and block assist for the Eagles.

The Eagles improved to 7-8 overall on the season and are 1-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.  MSJC has two more IEAC matches this week.  The Eagles will host San Bernardino Valley on the San Jacinto Campus Wednesday night at 5 pm and then travel to Copper Mountain on Friday for another 5 pm start.

MSJC is seeking back-to-back conference championships and their third in the past four seasons.
