Women's soccer team can't get past Long Beach City

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team got two impressive goals from sophomore midfielder Marissa Banos, but it wasn't quite enough in a 4-2 loss to Long Beach City on Tuesday at home.

The defeat snapped a two-match unbeaten streak for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 2-4-1 overall, while Long Beach City improved its record to 3-1-0 overall.

The Vikings scored first getting a goal from Brittany Caudillo in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead.

And that was the score heading into halftime.

But Long Beach City increased its lead early in the second half with a little help from IVC. Allison Rose Veloz was credited with a score after an own goal by the Lasers to make it 2-0.

Irvine Valley answered back in the 57th minute, getting a nice goal by Banos, who lofted a shot from past 30 yards over the head of Viking keeper Almareli Quintero.

Long Beach City put the match away with two more goals in the next eight minutes. Nathaly Silva scored in the 58th minute and then Harley Wade finished a pass from Emma Rosillo in the 65th minute to make it a 4-1 game.

Banos kept fighting for the Lasers and scored off of another long shot in the 75th minute to pull IVC within two scores.

But that is the way the match ended.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at home against El Camino at 3 p.m.
