W. VOLLEYBALL: HORNETS LOSE A CLOSE ONE IN FIVE

No. 22 Fullerton hosted No. 15 Santa Barbara City College for a non-conference match on Wednesday and lost in a close 3-2 battle.

The tone was set early in the first set as both teams fought it out in a back-and-forth game with the Hornets getting the best of the Vaqueros 23-25. Santa Barbara City came out swinging with an early lead in the second set. FC kept it close, but SBCC grabbed the set 25-21. Set three belonged to the Hornets 22-25. Fullerton did its best to put the Vaqs away in the fourth set holding a 19-23 lead, however Santa Barbara would not break as they went on to win it 26-24. In the fifth and final set, the Hornets gave Santa Barbara an early lead and had a hard time recovering. FC did its best to recover, but the wind had already left the sails as the Vaqs sealed it 15-12.

Sophomore Faith Webb led the way for the Hornets with 12 kills and 21 digs. Freshman Hannah Wilmes followed with 10 kills, 14 digs, and 2 solo blocks. Sophomore Hannah Tobin had a big night with 30 digs, while freshman Alicia Isa Domingo dug up 12 and added 9 assists. Freshman Nya Veikoso had 2 kills, 11 assist, and 8 digs. 

Up Next: Fullerton (6-3 overall) travels to Grossmont College for another non-conference match this Friday, September 10th at 6:00 pm.
