Pirates win two at Napa Valley Classic

It was a great day for the Porterville College women's volleyball team in Napa on Saturday. After opening the season with five consecutive losses, the Pirates won both its matches at the Napa Valley College Classic.

PC began the day with a marathon five-set win over host Napa Valley (25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-12) and closed with a 3-1 victory over College of the Redwoods (19-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-13).

Freshman Victoria Dabney led the Pirates' offense with 21 kills over the two matches, including a season-high 14 against Napa Valley.

Sophomore Madison Doty did it all for Porterville in the victory over Redwoods. She had 6 kills, 5 aces, and totaled 4 blocks (3 solo). That came after she posted 9 kills and 2 solo blocks against Napa Valley.

Sophomore Jordan Castaneda had 51 assists on the day, posting 27 against Napa Valley and 24 vs. Redwoods.

Porterville improved to 2-5 overall and returns to action on Wednesday (Sep. 15) when the Pirates travel to Columbia College for their Central Valley Conference opener.
