GUNNING PAST THE RAIDERS

GUNNING PAST THE RAIDERS

The Hornets took on Moorpark at home Thursday afternoon and outlasted the Raiders 7-4.

Fullerton drew first blood in the bottom of third that was sparked by a nice bunt-hit by RJ Vanderhook. Soon after, Justin Sharp came up to bat ripping a double off the left field wall scoring Vanderhook and Isaiah Marquez. Miguel Cortez followed with a hard single up the middle that brought Sharp across. After the dust clear FC held a 3-0 lead.

FC add another run to its lead in the fourth (4-0) R. Vanderhook knocked a single up the middle that scored Marquez.

A couple of solo jacks in the 5th and 6th innings by Garet Crenshaw (over right field) and Isaiah Marquez (over left) putting the Hornets in control of the game at 6-0.

The Raiders did not go away quietly having a big inning in the top of the 7th. With the bases loaded, Shane Leong-Grieger worked a walk that forced Chase Aurand across home plate. Paden Riley hit a sacrifice fly that gave C. Whitcomb the chance to dart in from third base. A. Prado did some more damage smacking a double to right center field scoring Leong-Grieger and Dylan Leek scored.

Fullerton snuck a run back in the bottom 7th when Niko Santamaria hit a bloop single to left field that allowed Crenshaw to score from second.

The Hornet pitching remained stalwart as Joe Linehan pitched 2 solid innings giving up only a hit, a run, and had 1 strikeout. Ryan Chavez tossed the final inning quieting any of Moorpark's hopes allowing only a hit with 2 K's for his first save of the season. Earning his second win, starting pitcher Adam Armstrong (2-0) threw a strong game going 6 innings with 6 hits against, no runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.

It was a great day at the plate with the Hornets racking up 15 hits. RJ Vanderhook was 4 out of 5 with to hits off of outstanding bunts. Isaiah Marquez was 3 for 4 with a homer and a double. Jacob Sharp (double), Miguel Ortiz, and David Barrios all had a 2-hit game.

Up Next: Fullerton (4-0 overall) hits the road on Friday, February 4th when they play at Ventura College. The first pitch goes out at 1:00 pm.
