COD Men’s Basketball knocks off #14 Wolverines for 1st time since ’08, 92-85

COD (11-4; 3-0) remained undefeated in Conference play, defeating the #14 ranked San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (9-5; 0-2) in overtime and beating the Wolverines for the first time in 12 years, 92-85.

All five starters scored in double figures as freshman starting guard Devlin Adams (Moreno Valley H.S.) and sophomore starting guard Joshua Jones (Moreno Valley Valley View) led the Roadrunners with 20 points each. Adams went 8 of 19 from the field, including 2 of 7 from beyond three-point-range and leading the team in assists with seven. Jones scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half, going 6 of 14 from the field and a deadly 5 of 6 from the free throw line, all while leading the team in total rebounds with nine.

Since 1981, the Roadrunners have a 19-38 record overall against the Wolverines, including an 11-16 record in Palm Desert.

Sophomore starting guard Sam Skipper (Perris H.S.) and sophomore starting guard John Rich (Palm Springs H.S.) scored 16 points each. With Skipper scoring all 16 of his points in the second half, going 5 for 13 from the field with five assists and Rich went 6 of 13 from the field, shooting 2 of 7 from beyond the arc on the afternoon.

Sophomore starting forward Kavonte Kinney (Cathedral City H.S.) scored six of his 11 points in the first half and was 6 of 9 from the charity stripe in the win and freshman guard Antonio Holley lll (Santa Monica H.S.) led the team off of the bench, scoring all seven of his points in the second half.

The next game for Desert is on Saturday, January 11 at 3p at home against the Barstow Vikings in IEAC play. Since 1976, the Roadrunners have a 24-24 record overall against the Vikings, including a 13-8 record in Palm Desert. The last time the Roadrunners defeated Barstow was 2014, winning the contest in Palm Desert, 95-85.
