Spartans Overcome 0-2 Start To Win In Five

The team celebrates a point scored.

In a closely contested five set match the MiraCosta College women's volleyball team stayed positive after trailing two sets to none and won the match in an exciting fashion.  On Friday the Spartans made the long road trip up to College of the Canyons to take on the gritty Cougar team.

The five sets between the Spartans and Cougars were decided by a total of 13 points, making it an entertaining exhibition of volleyball and anyone's match to win.

Canyons won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-23.  With their backs against the wall the MiraCosta squad refocused and found a way to win the third game 26-24.  The fourth game was just a competitive as the first three. The Spartans won their second set by a score of 25-22 which led to the fifth and final set.

In the fifth set both teams battled but with a final point being scored by freshman Aria Barker, MiraCosta earned the win. The Spartans had strong contributions from the entire roster but notables include the defense of sophomore libero Paola Peralta and the serving of Cameron Martinez.

With the win the Spartans improve to 3-1 heading into the holiday weekend. MiraCosta is next in action against Irvine Valley College on Wednesday at MiraCosta College. Tip off is 6PM.  Unfortunately spectators are not currently allowed at MiraCosta Volleyball matches but the game can be viewed on Facebook Live under the MiraCosta College Volelyball page.
