Football Upended By Ventura

Ventura, CA - The Renegades traveled south after their bye week to face 5th ranked Ventura in an SCFA Northen League matchup and came away with a 23-10 loss.

The Rengades got on the board first mid-way through the 1st quarter on a 37 yard Nathan De Jager field goal that split the uprights. That would be the extent of the lead they would hold in the game as on Ventura's next possession the Pirates would engineer a 14 play 84 yard drive to put the ball in the endzone and with the ensuing extra point attempt, take a 7-3 lead. With 7:31 left in the 2nd quarter the Pirates would add a field goal to extend the lead at 10-3 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Ventura would go on to add a touchdown and a field goal to go up 20-3. The lone Renegade touchdown of the evening came when Josh Moran, BC's third quarterback to take snaps in the game, connected on a short pass to Elisha Ortiz who scampered 38 yards for the score and narrowed the score at 20-10. The Pirates converted a 26 yard field goal with 13:15 left in the fourth quarter to add to their lead, 23-10. Both teams would then go back and forth offensively until a Josh Moran pass was intercepted by Ventura to secure the victory for the Pirates.

With the loss the Renegades move to a 3-3 overall record with four games left to play on their schedule.

Elisha Ortiz lead the way offensively for BC with 143 all-purpose yards and one touchdown. Josh Moran, who played for only part of the second half at quarterback after starter Josh Medina came out of the game with an injury, went 7/12 passing for 91 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

On special teams, with the lone field goal made this game, De Jager remains perfect on the season going 7/7 on field goal attempts and leads the team in scoring for the year with 40 points. Punter Carson Olivas punted the ball five timed for 221 yards (44.2 avg.), with a long punt of 55 yards.

The Renegades continue league play this coming Saturday 10/20 when they travel to Long Beach to take on the Vikings for a 5pm kickoff at Vets Stadium.
