Softball: LBCC returns to postseason for first time since 2011, host Bakersfield in play-in game

Long Beach City College has been awarded the No. 16 seed and will host No. 17 Bakersfield College on Tuesday (May 3) in a play-in round game of the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Vikings are making their first trip to the postseason since 2011.

Under first-year head coach Megan Martinez, LBCC compiled a 22-18 overall record and finished in fourth place in the powerful South Coast Conference with a 12-9 mark.

No. 15 Ventura College (26-13) hosts No. 18 Rio Hondo College (16-24) in the other play-in game. The lowest remaining seeded team from those games will take on No. 1 Cypress College (35-5) with the other team traveling to face No. 2 Santiago Canyon College (32-7) in a best-of-three first-round playoff series.

Bakersfield compiled an 18-21-1 overall record and finished second in the Western State Conference Blue Division at 14-7. The Renegades return to the playoff for the first time since 2012.

Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the LBCC Softball field, located adjacent from the soccer field and tennis courts at the Liberal Arts Campus on Carson Street in Long Beach. Tickets to the California Community College Athletic Association postseason game cost $12 for general admission and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens (60+), and children.
