Women’s Tennis Rides Strong Singles Play, Defeats Orange Coast

The Riverside City College women's tennis team hosted their second straight match at home Thursday afternoon and squared off against the Orange Coast College Pirates in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. After dropping their top two doubles matches, the Tigers relied on strong singles play leading to a 6-3 victory.

Freshman duo Marvonna Vaxter and Semaj Walter were the lone victors for the Tigers doubles squad as they kept the Tigers pushing with an 8-3 win.

Walter continued on as the number six singles player and hauled in a win in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2). Freshman Samantha Treat held it down as the top singles player with a strong three set win with the first two sets proving to be a true battle (1-6, 7-6 (10), 6-1).

Sophomore Torrey Mateljan pocketed a two set win (6-4, 6-4) as the number two singles player, while Jillian Stark (6-1, 6-2) and Adrielle Fotchi (6-2, 6-1) followed suit.
