Eagle Baseball Evens Conference Record With Win at Desert

The MSJC baseball team picked up their first Inland Empire Athletic Conference win of the year on Tuesday as the bats came alive in a 14-2 road win at College of the Desert.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings in Palm Desert on Tuesday, but the Eagle bats awoke in the fourth when they pushed 6 runs across the plate to take a commanding early lead.  Alfred Lopez drove in the day's first run with an RBI single to right field that scored Peter BrooksJoseph Hauck would follow with his own RBI single and Fabian Correa had the big hit of the inning as he drove in two with a triple to left.

MSJC would go on to add 3 runs in the 7th, two in the 8th, and then 3 more in the 9th to cruise to the victory.  The Eagles ended the day with 10 hits as Correa, Gabriel Ponce De Leon, Simon Rangel, and Lopez all finished the game with two hits each.  Correa and Lopez each had a pair of RBIs as seven different Eagles drove in runs.  

The Eagles also got a solid effort on the mound from Andrew Shepard as he earned the victory going 7 full innings as the starter.  Shepard allowed just two hits and one earned run as he struck out 7 and allowed just 2 walks.  Richard Teran pitched the final two innings of the day for MSJC.

The win improves the Eagles to 5-10 overall on the season they are 1-1 in IEAC games.  MSJC will be at home on Thursday for a 2 pm conference game against Victor Valley and will finish their week with a 1 pm contest at Barstow on Saturday.
