Grace Vargas had two goals and an assist on Saturday, leading Sierra to a 3-2 win over SBCC in the Ventura Showcase women's soccer tournament.

Vargas broke a 2-2 tie with a goal in the 75th minute. The Wolverines (3-0) have outscored their opponents this year 18-2.

The Vaqueros, last year's State runner-up, fell to 0-1-1 and suffered their first regular-season loss in 22 games (19-1-2) and nearly two years, dating back to Nov. 4, 2016 when they lost to Ventura 3-2.

Riley Moore scored her first goal of the year on an assist from Lourdes Marin-Rodriguez in the fourth minute to put the Vaqueros up 1-0. Vargas evened it in the 20th minute and Samantha Craig put the Wolverines back on top 2-1 in the 25th minute.

Isabella Viana tied it up at 2 in the 65th minute and Vargas got the game-winner 10 minutes later.

"We played really well in the second half against a very good team," said coach John Sisterson. "It was good to see us fight back. We're starting to build our game and getting to know each other. We're starting to get our rhythm."

The Vaqueros have been hindered by injuries with four defenders suffering season-ending injuries in the last couple of weeks.

The Vaqueros will make their home debut on Tuesday against Canyons at 2 p.m. They were perfect at La Playa Stadium last year (11-0) and they've won 13 in a row at home. They've captured 20 of their last 21 home games, dating back to the end of 2016.
