Cougars Claw Glendale for 5-4 Conference Win

College of the Canyons notched a 5-4 victory over visiting Glendale College on Tuesday to get back in the win column and surpass the .500 mark for the second time this season.

The Lady Cougars have won three of the first four conference matches of the season after finishing in sixth place in the Western State Conference (WSC) during the program's inaugural campaign in 2018. 

Canyons scored the majority of its points in the singles matches, taking four of the six pairings to open up an early 4-2 lead heading in the afternoon's double play. COC's duo of Nicole Villarta and Marisa Wambolt cruised to an 8-4 double win to seal the team victory.

Una Stanisavljevic, Villarta, Celeste Hernandez, Seleste Sakato all registered wins for COC in singles play.

The Lady Cougars will remain on their home court for a conference match vs. Victor Valley College at 2p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.

6. Calista Lian lost to Marissa Deciga (GCC) —1-6, 0-6

Doubles

1. Stanisavljevic/Sakato (COC) lost to Chacon/Ghazaryan (GCC) — 5-8

2. Villarta/Wambolt (COC) defeats Gabriella Contratto/Villegas-Avila(GCC) — 8-4

3. Hernandez/Lian lost to Deciga/Isabella Hakopian (GCC) — 5-8
