SHASTA WINS TWO AT DIABLO VALLEY TOURNAMENT

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team won both its games at the Diablo Valley Tournament over the weekend, beating De Anza 65-60 and Contra Costa 67-58.

The Knights have won four straight and both sophomores Zach Thompson and Elijah Ramirez scored in double figures in the two games last week.

Shasta 65, De Anza 60
The Knights hit a season-best 11 3-pointers in the game, shooting 11-of-25 to get the victory. Thompson led the way with 19 points, Tanner Bidwell added 15 points and Derek Gorden contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Ramirez dropped 10 points off the bench for the Knights, who held De Anza to only 3-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc in the game.

Shasta 67, Contra Costa 58
Thompson was the Knights' lone starter to score in double figures with 14 points while both Daniel Kelly and Ramirez came off the bench to contribute 12 and 10 points, respectively. Shasta led 34-29 at half and made 16 free throws in the game – seven from Kelly. Simmer Singh added nine points and five boards and Michael Plunkitt dished a team-best six assists.

Shasta (5-2) hosts the Shasta Invitational over the weekend, opening against Merritt College Thursday at 6 p.m.
