In a match that was moved to Monday due to weather concerns, the Marauders took on the LA Mission College Eagles Monday. Although they battled from start to finish, the Marauders came up short, losing 6-3.
In doubles play, No.1 Sydney Bush and Naia Smithley lost 8-0, No. 2 Nicole Padilla and Julie Tejeda won 8-6, and No. 3 Arianett Avina and Emily Lopez were defeated 8-3.
In singles play, No.1 Bush was defeated 0-6, 1-6, and No. 2 Smilthley lost 0-6, 2-6. In the No. 3 and No.4 matches, the success from doubles carried over, with Padilla winning 7-5, 6-3, and Tejeda winning 6-4, 6-0. At No. 5 Singles, Mary Williams lost 1-6, 2-6, and at No. 6 Singles, Avina lost 0-6, 2-6.
Coach Webb noted, " I was very pleased to see Nicole and Julie get their first conference win in doubles. They have been playing much better recently. Clearly, they carried the momentum into singles with straight-set wins."
"Overall, we are playing better tennis which is always the goal with the conference tournament around the corner, to be playing our best tennis at the most important time of the season," Webb added.
The Marauders are now 5-8 overall, and 3-6 in Western State Conference play. They return to the court on Thursday, March 16th, for a conference match at College of the Canyons at 2:00 pm and will wrap up the week with a home non-conference matchup with Mt. San Antonio College Saturday, March 18th, at noon.
