Mistakes Doom Warriors in Loss at Cypress

CYPRESS, Calif. - Some routine mistakes in El Camino College's game vs Cypress College let the game get away from them in a 6-1 loss on the road on Tuesday afternoon. 

Although the Warriors (1-2) finished the game with one error on the scoresheet, there were a multitude of plays the Warriors will rue the loss of opportunities.  

The Warriors offense was held in check against Cypress (2-1) as they only had four hits for the day.  Diego Alarcon led the way with two hits. However, the Warriors had eight batters reach on walks and one HBP.  The Warriors left 11 men on base and could only push across one run after loading the bases twice in the game.  

Bobby Silvis (2-for-5) and Andrew Sojka (2-for-4) led the way for the Chargers.

Aaron Orozco picked up the loss despite tossing a quality start.  Orozco pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits and one walk.   The Warriors bullpen allowed three more runs in the last two innings of the game.  Dash Dunham surrendered three runs (one earned) in one inning of work and Kyle Hatai tossed a scoreless inning.

Cypress struck first in the first inning.  After a lead-off single by Silvis, the Warriors thought they had thrown out Silvis at 2B on a stolen base.  But the umpire ruled him safe and he would eventually come around to score on a Sojka RBI groundout.

The Chargers added another run in the third inning.  Orozco allowed three hits to open up the inning. On the third hit, Orozco fielded a bunt and looked at third base first rather than going for the easy out at first which loaded the bases.  However, he should've escaped the inning unscathed. The next batter hit into a fielder's choice at 3B. Alarcon got the force out at third and tossed to home plate before the runner got there.  But the catcher didn't apply the tag and the second run scored for the Chargers.

Cypress added another run in the fourth inning to make it 3-0 before the Warriors got one run back in the seventh inning to make it a 3-1 game.  Chris Villavicencio and Alarcon had back-to-back one out singles. Neil Feist drew a walk to load the bases. Aaron Orozco grounded out to bring in one run.  But the Warriors couldn't push across another run for the game.

The Warriors gave up three more runs to Cypress in the seventh inning.  Dash Dunham made his El Camino debut and should've got out of the inning cleanly.  With two outs and the bases juiced, Dunham induced an easy ground ball to second base.  However, the Warriors threw the ball away at first to extend the inning and bring in two unearned runs.  Dunham walked two more batters to bring in another run before getting out of the inning. 

The Warriors couldn't muster a comeback in the final two innings and settled for their second consecutive loss.  The Warriors will head to LA Mission on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM.
