Eagles Fall to #13 SD City in Men's Basketball

The MSJC men's basketball team came up a bit short on Wednesday night as they lost a very fast paced game to #13 ranked San Diego City at home 96-85.

The Eagles and the Knights were both intent on pushing the ball up and down the floor Wednesday and in the end the hot shooting of San Diego City led them to the victory.  The teams battled through a back and forth first half with the Knights able to build a 4 point lead at halftime.  Latravian Glover was big for the Eagles in the first half as he scored 13 of his team high 17 in the first 20 minutes.

A 6-1 run to start the second half by San Diego City pushed their lead to 51-42 and from there they fought off the Eagles the rest of the way.  The Eagles got the lead down to five on a couple of occasions in the final 15 minutes, but could not connect on the big shot to close the gap any closer.  The Knight held off MSJC with 17 of 30 shooting in the second half and seemed to make every key shot down the stretch.  Both teams did a good job of getting the ball to the basket as City finished with 50 points in the paint while MSJC had 46.

Along with the 17 points from Glover, MSJC also got double digit scoring from Jamaal Barnes (14), Lenzell Simmons (12), Chidi Okwarabizie (11), and Brandon Fredrick (11).  Okwarabizie also led MSJC in rebounds with a team high 7 on the night.

The Eagles are now 3-3 on the season while the Knights improved to 6-3.  MSJC will be back in action on Saturday as they take on another State ranked opponent when they travel to Fullerton to take on the #3 ranked Hornets.  Saturday's game in Fullerton is set for a 5 pm tip-off.
